Explore the art of writing for children with Sara Cassidy, author of many acclaimed books for children and youth. In the morning, workshop participants will write text for a board book and draft a picture book, getting practice with the writer's palette for captivating young readers (e.g., energetic words, appealing to the senses). In the afternoon, participants will get practice in creating characters that are believably shaped by where and how they live, and writing dialogue that reveals and moves the story. We will do many writing exercises, share our work, and talk about how a book moves from idea to completion.

Sara would love to meet workshop participants ahead of Saturday, and invites anyone who can make it to the Fern and Cedar at 7 pm. for an hour together.
