This direct method of transfer is done without using a printing press. Surface Design means that your imagery covers the top of the fabric, not to be confused with dye absorption into the fabric itself. Consequently, any type of fabric may be used, as long as it has a relatively smooth surface.
We will begin with practising with the tools and creating some small (8 x 11) fabric swatches with various ink applications.
The class instruction will carry on into cutting, marking and assembling some styrofoam "plates" which will be inked and pressed onto your fabric. We will explore the art of "patterns" repeat imagery in controlled or random suggestions.
Students will take home a scarf, which is included in the cost of the course. (bamboo jersey knit)
Everyone should bring a couple of cloth pieces (not bigger then a pillow case, bring a pillow case!!!) or two!!!
I will show you my favourite printing technique
