Margie Davidson is a quilt artist and surface designer. Her love of colour is joyfully expressed through the fabrics she paints and the quilts she creates.
Teaching is an important part of who Margie is. She has a Bachelor of Education and has taken a variety of art courses. Margie is an entertaining speaker and a supportive instructor. She loves teaching quilters and enjoys sharing ideas about colour theory and design principles to encourage the creation of individual quilts in her classes. Margie also taught children and adults at the Art Gallery of Alberta where she was employed as an educator for six years.
A quiltmaker for over 25 years, Margie turned her attention to designing her own art quilts in 2000 as she prepared for her first solo show in the Discovery Gallery at the Alberta Craft Council in Edmonton. Since that time, her art quilts have been exhibited in local and national shows across Canada as well as in Ireland, New Zealand and the United States. Margie received awards in the Canadian Quilters’ Association National Juried Show in 2000 and 2004. She is a member of the Fibre Art Network, a Western Canadian textile co-operative.
Margie's love affair with surface design began in 2002. Each summer, she can be found in her backyard happily splashing paint onto cloth and discharge printing. She takes great pleasure incorporating cloth of her own hand into her art quilts. Margie currently teaches colour theory and design workshops for Earthly Goods Inc. in Edmonton as well as travelling to teach for guilds across Canada.
She is a CQA/ACC Certified Quilt Judge. Judging the National Juried Show was the highlight of her Quilt Canada experience in Ottawa in 2006. Margie had a wonderful time teaching at the Quilt Canada National Conference in Newfoundland in June 2008. She taught classes and judged the CQA/ACC National Juried Show at Quilt Saskatchewan in Saskatoon in May 2009 and judged the Quilt Canada National Juried show in Halifax in May 2012.
Margie had a very successful time at Quilt BC in Penticton in May 2013. She taught a two-day class, Inspired by Travel, and a one day class, Upside Down Applique. Margie was honoured to receive the CQA/ACC Teacher of the Year Award for 2013. Here is Margie with her certificate and Lezley Zwaal who nominated Margie for the award.
