Janet Lawrence - painting - Safe Passage

24" x 30"

I AM RELATIVELY NEW TO PAINTING AND ONLY TOOK UP THE HOBBY A FEW YEARS AGO AFTER RETIRING AND MOVING TO VANCOUVER ISLAND IN 2013 TO FOLLOW OUR DAUGHTER AND HER HUSBAND AND THREE OF OUR GRANDCHILDREN.  OUR FIRST FEW YEARS HERE WERE SPENT BUILDING A HOUSE AND SETTLING INTO THE NEW AREA.  PRIOR TO THAT WE HAD RESIDED IN PRINCE GEORGE IN NORTHERN B.C.

A COUPLE YEARS AGO, WHEN I FOUND I HAD MORE TIME ON MY HANDS, I DECIDED TO TRY PAINTING.  I TOOK SOME PAINTING LESSONS ONLINE FROM TIM GAGNON.COM WHICH TAUGHT ME SOME OF THE BASICS NEEDED TO COMPOSE A PAINTING.  I WAS SURPRISED AT HOW MUCH I LOVED IT AND FEEL VERY LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND ANOTHER HOBBY WHICH BRINGS ME SUCH PLEASURE.  I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED TO CREATE THINGS AND ENJOY DOING CRAFTS AND MAKING QUILTS BUT FIND THAT PAINTING BRINGS ME JUST AS MUCH JOY.

I AM TRULY INSPIRED BY THE BEAUTY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA AND FEEL BLESSED TO LIVE IN SUCH A WONDERFUL PART OF THE WORLD.  I LOVE TO PAINT SEASCAPES AND PRAIRIE SCENES MOSTLY, BUT ALSO LOVE PAINTING BIRDS AND TREES AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT INSPIRES ME.  EVEN THOUGH I ATTEMPT TO BE REALISTIC IN MY PAINTINGS, MOST ARE SOMEWHAT WHIMSICAL.  I KNOW THAT I HAVE A LOT TO LEARN, BUT ALSO REALIZE THERE WILL ALWAYS BE MORE TO LEARN WITH EACH NEW PAINTING, AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE JOURNEY.
