In this class we explore the rudiments of the Japanese art of shibori tie dying. This ancient art has been practiced and perfected for centuries. A brief overview of the history of the art form as well as present day examples will be provided. Students will be introduced to the materials needed and there will be ample time to practice basic techniques of folding, binding and clamping using multiple dye baths for immersion and surface painting.

Maggie is a Nanaimo-based artist and educator. She received a Bachelor’s degree in studio art from Concordia University and began experimenting with 3D media after moving to Vancouver Island. She creates whimsical works of allegory in papier mache, plaster, and, concrete, often drawing inspiration from great works of art. Recently Maggie has focused on studying the Japanese art of fabric dyeing known as Shibori. Her classes explore traditional developments in this ancient art as well recent innovations.

All classes and workshops are non-refundable. Cancellations made 7 days, or more in advance of the workshop or class date will receive 100% credit. 6 days before class, and no credit will be issued.
