Hand-lettering need not become a lost art!

Well written letters can be beautiful. Starting with the basic BLOCK letter (similar to the architectural lettering found on construction drawings when all work was executed by hand) we will explore the monoline letter form using readily available and inexpensive tools.

With an understanding of these simple letter forms we can then explore variations and layouts to develop individual style, adding colour and graphics and then move on to more advanced letterforms such as italic, Romans and others. Students will have an opportunity to try a variety of lettering tools to further develop their personal style. Your cards and envelopes will never look the same!

Fee includes materials kit

Maureen grew up in Port Alberni and started drafting and lettering while working summers in my father's engineering firm. After graduating from UBC School of Architecture I spent a rewarding career designing many homes, mostly on the mainland as well as on the island, under the name Homeworks. I taught drafting, sketching, materials and construction at BCIT's Interior Design and Architectural programs, as well as countless workshops in lettering and mixed media arts to calligraphers and artists while living in North Vancouver. Several of my pieces have been published in Somerset Studios publications.
