About Deidre Michael – Qualicum Beach, BC
Deidre, a retired banker, started working with mosaics 25 years ago, beginning with flowerpots. She creates broken china ‘pique assiette’ style mosaics. Inspired by nature she began making bird and other animal pictures. Deidre’s art is the ultimate in recycling, using old, chipped china, beads, small tiles and more, attached to a variety of found backs.
Works range from 3-inch Christmas ornaments to large 24-inch mosaics panels. Sometimes the china pattern dictates the design, and the hunt is on to find the right pieces of china to add reality to a bird’s wing.
