Basics of Drawing and More with Carol Ann Owens
Nov. 16th, 23rd, 30th and Dec. 7th, 2022, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm 

In this 4-week course, Carol Ann Owens will focus on various drawing techniques, guiding students with practical, hands-on exercises.  

Week 1:

Introductions, Brief discussion about materials and workshop
- What are the 3 best friends in drawing
- Changing a flat 2D form into a 3D form
- Train the brain from circles to eclipses
- Emphasis on direction and 2 planes versus 3 planes
- Light, highlight, middle and shadow areas

Week 2:

- 1,2, and 3 point perspective
- Horizon line, vanishing points and eye level
- How these 3 come into play with perspective when drawing buildings, landscapes and people

Week 3:

Instructor to set up a still life
- How to use a viewfinder
- How to use a pencil as a measuring tool
- Angles, space, values, composition
- Thumbnails
- Drawing of still life

Week 4: 

- How to use a photo reference 
- 2-3 thumbnails
- Take one of your thumbnails to a full size drawing using the information from weeks 1, 2 and 3

About Carol Ann Owens:

Carol Ann is a professional artist and enjoys working in a wide range of mediums, and brings her experience and expertise to the classroom.

A career in commercial art as an Art Director in Toronto, Ontario has given her not only the tools of practical training, but also a solid foundation in most aspects of art.

She was asked to create and develop two programs for a Toronto base college these would be part of their graduate certificate program. She then went on to teach these two courses, Colour & Design and Fashion Illustration for many years. Today these courses are still part of the college program.

Nature in all of her beauty inspires her passion for painting. Living here on Vancouver Island, nature is only steps away to the most beautiful scenery in Canada.

Please note: Contemporaneous health guidelines will be in place. Students must bring their own water containers as well as paper towels.

All classes and workshops are non-refundable. Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of the workshop or class date, will receive a 100% credit.
