About:

Cellists Amy Laing and Alexandra Lee come together to perform a program of duo cello music ranging from classical to tango, to Appalachian, and more. These Vancouver Island-based cellists each bring their own rich personal history of chamber music, orchestral, and solo performance to the stage and celebrate the beautiful versatility of the sound of two cellos.

Originally from Barrie, Ontario, Alexandra was the Principal Cellist in the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Silver Birch String Quartet. In 2017 she relocated to Nanaimo with her family to begin teaching at the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music, where she has a thriving studio of enthusiastic cellists. Alexandra is the Associate Principal Cellist in the Vancouver Island Symphony.

Having grown up near Nanaimo, Amy Laing made a pandemic move back to Vancouver Island after enjoying a twenty-year performance career in Toronto. During her time in Toronto, Amy played regularly with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company, was a member of the Madawaska String Quartet, and could often be heard from the pit playing solo cello for Mirvish Production broadway shows. She was also the Principal Cellist of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. Amy often plays with the Victoria Symphony, Baroque Victoria, Early Music Vancouver, and teaches at the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music and the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
