3 Week Mixed Media | Heather McAllister | June 7, 14, 21, 2025 | 9:30am to 3pm

In this 4 week mixed media course we will play with and explore the rich potentials of a wide range of mixed media materials and techniques. We will discuss and apply principles of strong color, design, and composition both to refine our techniques with the mixed media materials and to more confidently utilize the “products” we’ve created while playing. We will make several “projects” with   the papers and cloths we create. Ideas include books, vessels, cards, and collages.  

Participants will need to bring:
- an apron, 
- a Gelli plate (available at Michaels or amazon)
- a soft brayer (speedball soft brayer is best)
- a good pair of paper scissors
- plus a couple pieces (8x10 inches is fine) of cotton printed or plain fabric-maybe from a favourite old shirt you’d be happy to recycle (we will discuss on first session).
- You’re encouraged to bring any miscellaneous mixed media materials in your stash- pencil crayons, crayons, inks, pastels, favourite stencils, stamps. 

Materials fee will cover: assort papers, white cotton print cloth, acrylic paints and mediums, foils, paper clay, threads, glues and pastes.  

Life-long learner and teacher, Heather fills her days with art exploration and play. Before retiring from teaching, school administration, and university instruction, she worked alongside and supported scores of other creatives. She has extensive training and knowledge as a textile surface designer, printmaker, as well as mixed media, encaustic and oil painter.
