Richard Porter’s love of the land, sea and nature led him to a lifelong commitment to environmental causes and a love of nature.

This love paired with an artistic eye passed down from his parents has provided Richard with an appreciation for the natural beauty around us. 

After moving to Qualicum Beach in 2014, Richard rescued an old lathe and tried his hand at woodturning. He soon found the character and beautify in dead and downed trees began to reveal itself.

The old lathe has been passed on to a young neighbour and Richard has upgraded to a more powerful one, but the beauty he discovers in the natural material remains the same.
