We will emphasize the implementation of texture to bring interest to your paintings in pastel. Studying texture involves the effect of light on everything from reflective surfaces, rough wood, or sand and sea shells. Our aim is to complete 2 finished small pieces within our class time.
Some drawing experience would be helpful but not essential.
Supplies
- Bring all the pastels you may have at home. If you don't have a good range of colours then may I suggest a small set of 48 half sticks from "Paul Rubens soft pastels" available on Amazon. This set has a good range of colour, is above average quality and sells for about 35.00 dollars a set.
- sketch book
- pencils
- erasers
- 2 absorbent small cloths ( to wipe hands)
- masking tape
- a drawing board ( approx size 14" X 18" or larger)
- 1 sheet of cream or white paper ( Canson mi-tientes or other pastel papers). Do NOT bring ordinary writing paper or printer paper as it doesn't have the tooth to hold pigment.
- a face mask ( like a covid mask) to avoid breathing in pastel dust
- I will supply the coloured paper and the sanded paper for day 2 & will be happy to share the use of pastels in my own palette for those who may be short on supplies.
- I will also supply the reference material
All classes and workshops are non-refundable. Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of the workshop or class date will receive 100% credit. 6 days before class and no credit will be issued.
