In a 4 class exploration of the watercolour medium we try to finish 4 paintings. Starting with basic skills and moving forward to more challenging subjects.
Mixing colour, negative painting, observing light and its effects, various textural techniques and a host of other skills go into composing a watercolour painting. We will study painting without a brush, allowing pouring of washes to create spontaneity, using lifting as well as imprinting techniques along with traditional methods of watercolour.
Supply List:
Paper; minimum of 1, 140lb. 22 X 30 piece of artist quality waterolour paper ( arches, winsor newton or fabriano etc. are all acceptable manufacturers)
Paint; -5 Basic colours - Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Blue, Permanent Rose, Hansa yellow medium ( or any other medium transparent yellow)
*additional colours I like are Cobalt Blue, Burnt Umber, Cerulean Blue and Quinacridone series paints such as Gold, Burnt Orange, Burnt Scarlet, or Quinacridone Red. * note- These extra colours are not necessary - they're just nice.
Brushes - 1 wash brush
- 1" flat - 1 round brush - a #6 or #7
- 1 liner or rigger brush - anywhere from a #2 to a #4
Pallette; a fairly large surface for mixing washes - if you're using plastic lids bring several. It's good for a watercolour palette to have divisions so that your washes don't run into each other.
Miscellaneous - masking fluid, masking fluid eraser, pencil, sketch paper, soft eraser, masking tape, paper towel or rags - I will bring textural material.
