A Painting That Tells a Story | Deb Peters | May 27 & 28, 2026 | 10am - 3pm

This 2 day course will show how to create a painting with a story already thought through. Painting is a wonderful tool to bring a story to life for others. Have you ever had someone say, “where is that?” Or “what made you paint that?” Or even wonder where you can start a painting! I hope to show you a quick way to think of your painting and how to compose a it with ease. Then with broad colour blocking, we will place out the composition easily. We will continue to paint loosely, quickly and with the ‘story’ coming alive from your points created. Our last part of a painting is the details, tips for doing grasses, trees, water and other elements of your story in an impressionistic fashion. I will work with acrylics and show how this can easily be finished in a day or two.

BRING photos of your choice or ideas you’ve wanted to attempt; any inspiration you have been wanting to try! I will do a storyline of my own; thinking of what was or a place not to be forgotten.

Come join our community and celebrate all those creative thoughts we all have! There will be lots of ‘why’s’ and ‘how’s and any questions/discussions you wish to have on this style of painting. 

This course is for all: brave new painters, those learning to experiment and seasoned painters wishing to try something new!

EXAMPLE: Story/Title: "An Old Sailor Remembers” (please see photos on listing) in -winds and objects by the sea bring out memories of an old sailor -establish the winds in the grasses and the sky - a large part of the feeling of the story - show his comforts of today to make the painting restful -a twist in point… perhaps he was a lighthouse keeper, as well as a sailor!

I am a local artist who has been painting most of my life and have become a more serious artist in the last twelve years. I like to explored styles and mediums with numerous master artists which has defined my style as a painter with colour and impressions of our local landscapes and wildlife. I wish to bring joy and a story to my paintings.
