Drama - lots of drama - that's what you get when you exploit the rich saturated tones of pastel - the purest pigment in any medium.
Faith Love-Robertson will like to lead the class into exploiting textures with strong light and deep shadows. Our subjects will include natural objects and animals.
We will explore blending, stipling, layering, and subtracting pigment along with sgraffito ( carving into the pastel on the surface).
The class will start with gray tones and move onto strong colour palettes.
You will need:
- sanded pastel paper at least one full sheet - try and bring a midtone, not too light or too dark
- Canson mi'tientes paper - ( lighter and cheaper than the sanded paper) - you just need one sheet in midtone to do preliminary work before starting with the sanded paper
- pencil, charcoal, eraser, sketch paper
- masking tape or painters' tape
- a drawing board
- every pastel you can lay your hands on
- a face mask to prevent breathing in dust
- you can wear gloves to protect hands
- if you have transfer paper bring it but I will bring a roll of it as well
- I will also bring reference material - photos but also objects from nature
All classes and workshops are non-refundable. Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of the workshop or class date will receive 100% credit. 6 days before class and no credit will be issued.
