About Lois Goodnough

I am originally from Saskatchewan.  As a young girl I was always involved in the creation of art and spent countless hours drawing, painting, making crafts and learning to sew and design my own clothing.  This passion for creativity has stayed with me in one way or another all of my life.

For the most part a self-taught artist with no formal art education, I have always been inspired by colour and texture, the abstract and whimsy.  I believe these inspirations are very apparent in my art, particularly my love of textiles and pattern.  For many years, while working and raising a family, art took a backseat.  However, upon retiring to the Okanagan in 2003, I once again found the time and inclination to pursue my passion more fully.  I participated in local art workshops as well as taking drawing and painting classes at my local Arts Centre.

After relocating to Vancouver Island in 2013, I was very fortunate to find a wonderfully supportive community of artists who further encouraged and inspired my artistic development.  I primarily paint in acrylic; however, as I explore more abstract and figurative work I am experimenting with adding elements of handmade collage papers and using other mediums to create textural backgrounds.

I am an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Arrowsmith Chapter and the Oceanside11 Art Group with whom I paint  during the year.  I continue to attend local workshops, demonstrations,  as well as exploring several on-line classes to continue expanding my knowledge and skill level.

As an Active Member, I have been juried into three Federation of Canadian Artist (FCA) exhibitions in 2018;  two in Vancouver and one in Qualicum Beach at TOSH.  I have received two Honourable Mentions for my submissions to the Vancouver shows where both pieces sold.  In 2018 I participated, with two fellow artists, in the Central Island Studio Tour and will do so again in May of 2019.  My work has been shown at the Federation of Canadian Artists' Gallery on Granville Island in Vancouver; The Old School House Centre of the Arts in Qualicum Beach; The MacMillan Arts Centre; the Kitty Coleman Fall Artisans Festival; Nanoose Bay Art in the Garden; the Ladysmith Art Gallery; and, with Oceanside11 Art, at TOSH’s Art in Action Fair during the Grand Prix d’Art.
